Truthfully, I’m excited. I never, ever dreamed that I would be doing what I’m doing now at this stage of my life. I always thought of writing as a dream to be pursued in the distant future, perhaps after retirement. The fact that Dima and I are full-time authors still boggles my mind, and not a single day goes by when I don’t feel grateful for the indie publishing revolution that made this possible—and for our amazing, wonderful readers.
Now on to the book stuff… As some of you know, we currently have three books in the works. The Spell Realm (The Sorcery Code #2) is in the editing stages, so we should have it out in the next few weeks. Keep Me and The Krinar Captive will take longer, because I keep switching between the two books. I really, really should just focus on one, but I appear to have the attention span of a gnat these past couple of months. As a result, The Krinar Captive is at about 35,000 words (~45% done) and Keep Me is at about 20,000 words (~25% complete). I was going to concentrate on The Krinar Captive, since it was further along, but Nora and Julian kept calling me, so last week I switched over to Keep Me. If I stick with it, then Keep Me will come out ahead of The Krinar Captive–which is not what I thought just a month ago. Do you see why I’m hesitant to set dates far in advance?
Another problem is that I can’t make myself write the traditional first draft (i.e. vomit words onto paper). I agonize over every single word, then go over everything several times before moving on to the next chapter/scene. The result is a draft that’s almost publication-ready, but that advances at a glacial pace. I hear stories of writers being able to do 10,000 words per day, and I turn pea-green with envy each time. My best days are probably around 2,000 words, and lately 1,000 words seems to be my daily limit.
Still, I’m confident that these books will be out this year, even if I’m shaky on the exact publication order. My goal is to get Keep Me out this Fall, since many of you are waiting for this book. I may need to delay The Krinar Captive a bit to accomplish that, but both books will be released in 2014. And contrary to my usual policy, I may be able to give you guys a Keep Me release date soon (along with pre-order links), so please stay tuned!
